When Cate Kinkaid receives a frantic call about a triple homicide, she drives to the scene against her better judgement-aren’t triple homicides more up the police department’s alley?-only to find that the victims are not quite who she expects. Now she has a new rule to add to those she’s learned in her short stint as an assistant private investigator: always find out if the victims actually have human DNA. Because these three do not.
But who would shoot this nice lady’s dolls? What possible reason could the shooter have? And then there’s the startling discovery of another victim, who definitely does have human DNA . . .
With tension that is matched only by humor, Dolled Up to Die is the exciting second book in Lorena McCourtney’s The Cate Kinkaid Files. Mystery fans won’t find a place to stop and take a breath in this fast-paced and intriguing tale.

My take on this book:

"Dolled Up to Die is the second book in the Cate Kinkaid mystery series and really can be read as a stand alone work, but honestly it's such a good cozy little mystery that you're probably going to want to go back and read the first book just because you're going to want more of these characters!

When Cate Kinkaid was hired by her uncle Joe to work as an assistant investigator for Belmont Investigations he made it perfectly clear that they only handled routine investigations such as background checks, serving subpoenas and the like, thing is it seems murder cases keep cropping up in the town of Eugene, Oregon and Cate somehow finds herself in the middle of the action! The latest call is from a woman saying there has been a triple shooting, well how can Cate not help at the scene of a triple homicide especially when the caller might still be in danger. When she arrives on the scene though she does find three victims, and quickly discovers a fourth, thing is three of the gunshot victims are life sized dolls!

"Dolled Up to Die" is one of those  stories that you start reading and the next thing you know you are finished. The story moves along at such a fast pace that the pages just fly by. I love the character of Cate, she is a bumbling PI that provides more than a few laughs. She often talks to her fat cat Octavia, and is rescued more than once by her boyfriend Mitch. With several suspects the author doesn't make it easy to figure out who-dun-it with this one. Anyone who enjoys a fast paced cozy mystery with more than a few laughs and a bumbling heroine will certainly enjoy "Dolled Up to Die!"
