The charming Rosemary Cottage on the beach offers Amy Lange respite she needs to mourn her brother, Ben. She’s even thinking of moving her midwife practice to the Outer Banks community. It’s always been a refuge for her and her family. She also wants to investigate Ben’s disappearance at sea. Everyone blames a surfing accident, but Amy has reason to wonder.
Coast Guard officer Curtis Ireland has lost a sibling too. His sister, Gina, was run down by a boat, leaving him to raise her infant daughter. If anyone knew who little Raine’s father was, Curtis could lose his beloved niece. Yet he can’t help being drawn to Hope Beach’s new midwife, Amy. He even agrees to help her investigate what happened to both Ben and Gina.
Can two grieving people with secrets find healing on beautiful Hope Island? Or will their quest for truth set them at odds with each other…and with those who will go to any length to keep hidden things hidden?
My take on this book:
Amy Lange is grieving the loss of her brother Ben and really can't wrap her mind around the fact that it was an "accident." When she receives an email stating that she might want to take a trip to Hope Island hinting that her brother Ben had secrets that actually led to his death, she decides to take the trip to Rosemary Cottage on Hope Island a place that is dear to her hoping to find solace and even thinking of moving her midwifery practice there. Mostly though she is hoping to find the answers she needs so that she can truly understand her brother's death.
While this is the second book in the Hope Beach series by Colleen Coble it can easily be read as a stand alone work. I found myself swept into the story from the beginning pages when Gina, Curtis Ireland's sister is basically run down by a motorboat, thing is she recognized the person on the boat, but who was it? That along with wanting to know about Ben and what happened to him propelled me into this story to find the answers! Suspense filled with more than a few twists kept me turning the pages, and the romance was a nice bonus. Ms. Coble captured the beauty of the area that she writes about, allowing the setting to come to life for me. Overall, anyone who enjoys mystery/suspense with a sweet romance and a nice christian theme woven in will enjoy this one.
A complimentary copy of this book was provided for review.
Water can be calming and healing, but it can also be dangerous, as Amy Lange and Curtis Ireland both found out. Both lost their siblings to the sea, and they hope to find healing on Hope Island. But will they find it, or will their quest to find answers set them at odds with each other and with those who have secrets that need to stay hidden?
