My take on this book:
I love historical fiction so I was totally excited to read Masterpiece Marriage by Gina Welborn, another great book in the Quilt of Love series.
The year is 1891 and Zenus Dane knows the good Lord won't give him more than he can handle, but when his textile mill floods the insurance will repair the roof but that won't cover the fabric that was lost. Facing a mortgage and needing to meet payroll he comes up with an idea to sell his fabric to quilters and wants his aunt Priscilla who is an expert quilting designer to come up with a quilt pattern for him. Mary Varrs needs someone to draw her tomato seeds for her, so she gets Priscilla to do it, thing is she also enjoys playing matchmaker, and has high hopes that Zenus and Mary just might make a match. There is only one problem they don't get along!
I really enjoyed reading this story and found Zenus had a wonderful attitude. He could have taken the easy way out and sold his business like his cousin Sean wanted him to but he cared about what would happen to his workers, whom were mostly single mothers. Mary was a strong woman who aspired to become a professor during a time when attending college for a woman wasn't the norm. I loved the aspect of quilting and fabrics but it was the time period that Ms. Welborn pulled me into that really made this one a stand out read for me. It was interesting to learn about the textile mill but also equally as interesting to learn about botany. Easy to like well written characters provide more than a few laughs as the story progresses. Overall anyone who enjoys fast paced historical reads that include romance, humor and quilting will find this one well worth reading.
