My take on this book:
If I could only say one thing about this book I would have to say that I loved it! I read it in one sitting because I became so absorbed in the story and characters that I had to know how the ending would be, and boy I must say I wasn't disappointed at all. I easily found myself immediately drawn into the plight of Marianne, and because of the blurb I knew what she planned to do, but there were a few unexpected twists that made the story a very satisfying read. Every story needs a villain, and I am not sure who I disliked the most Marianne's stepfather or Maxwell Halsted the lecherous sixty year old man who thought he could "buy"her. Maxwell was tenacious pursuing Marianne west in order to make good on the deal he had struck with her step-father. I loved the Christian themes woven into the story, I found that they complimented the historical flavor. The western setting, and the way that God seemed to put Marianne where she needed to be, with someone who would look after her was well written and very believable. Anyone who enjoys historical romance that is cleanly written and provides easy to care for characters and a bit of suspense will find Runaway a must read! Renee Donnes writing style captured my attention and leaves me anxious to read more of her work.
