From the moment that you are brought into the book you will be immediately part of the western romance in the middle of the south. The Fires of Love & Hate Series will keep you right in the middle of a tale that is based on some true and historical events. This Historical Romance series is sure to be you’re new favorite.

My take on this book:

Forced to Love is a historical western that might be labeled as romance but it is more than your average romance. The story opens in 1896 near Gallatin, Missouri, where Hattie Moran finds herself in an arranged marriage to Abner Garland because of debts her father owes to Abner's father Jess. While Hattie loves Abner's mother Rebecca, who just happens to be one of the wealthiest women in the country, she can't stand Abner or his father who are both as bad as her father. When Rebecca learns of the situation surrounding the marriage she is furious and decides to come up with a plan that will change Hattie's life forever, thing is she will have to go ahead with the marriage to Abner, and stay married to him for a year. Can Hattie tolerate the situation she finds herself in, and will Rebecca's plan work?

Historical romance fans that enjoy a multi-layered story will find this a must read. I was drawn in from the beginning pages as what appears to be the wedding of the year is taking place, but then the story starts to unfold making for a page turning read because I had to know what would happen to Hattie and her family. The author's attention to detail allowed me to envision the setting, but also breathed life into the characters as well. Hattie was such a smart, strong willed girl, she had a wonderful ally in Rebecca. I loved that her character was based on a real person from the author's family. Knowing this provided for a richer story. Mr. Alexander's storytelling is smooth and easy to follow, but there are enough twists to keep the story from dragging. Not your average romance the author deals with a few heavy subjects, but he handles it very well. Overall a page turning story with strong characters and a plot that grabbed my attention and wouldn't let go. While this is the first book I have read by Sky Alexander I am certain it won't be my last.
