It wasn't Cassie Haddon's fault that she had managed to reach the age of twenty-five without possessing any useful skills. Until the war, she had always had servants to wait on her. Since then, she and her widowed mother had moved from place to place, relying on family to care for them. Now she's forced to find work to support them both. What isn't in her plans is falling for Jacob West, a local restaurateur and grocer. She needs a job and he needs help. But what they both need is love.

With her signature sweet romance, Ann Shorey weaves a tale of two people from very different backgrounds finding common ground and the hopes of a bright future together.

My take on this book:
I always look forward to reading anything that Ann Shorey writes, and since I had already read the first two books in the Sisters at Heart series I really couldn't wait to dive right into this one. I am always a sucker for a pretty cover and this one was stunning, but the story inside surpassed the beauty of the cover in my opinion. Cassie Haddon was one of those characters that I really became invested in, sometimes I wanted to shake her but overall I wanted her to become the person that I knew Ms. Shorey would allow her to be and I wasn't disappointed. The character grows so much during the story, becoming strong, and self sufficient, and does it in a very realistic way. It was as if we watched her blossom as her story progressed. The romance that develops between her and Jacob was just right, allowing that opposites often attract. A page turner for certain, that gave me a few chuckles, and a sweet, christian romance rolled into a historical setting made this a very satisfying read for me. I feel like this book could easily be read as a stand alone but I think fans of historical romance will want to read the first two books in the Sisters at Heart series as well.

A complimentary copy of this book was provided for review.
