My take on this book:
Patsy Milstrap wishes she could leave her past in the past. Up until the age of thirteen she lived in a home with an abusive stepfather. One day though her mother realizes that Patsy needs to be sent away. She goes to live with a nice christian couple and begins a new life. She marries a wonderful man and has children and as much as she tries to forget her past for the sake of her family its a difficult thing to do. When a vacation in Florida has her facing someone from her past, she knows that she will have to deal with her past if she is ever going to have a future.
"Waiting for Sunrise" is the second book in the Cedar Key series but can easily be read as a stand alone work. The author weaves an emotional story that easily pulled me in from the beginning. As the story unfolds we get glimpses of Patsy's past allowing us to understand how she came to be the person she is. Patsy was a character that was so easy to connect with. Her painful past was difficult for her to deal with, she cant help but wonder why her mother would have given her away. Gilbert was a wonderful husband who would do anything to help Patsy.
The secondary story of her mother and brothers added to the overall plot. It was interesting to see how the abusive home life affected each person.A story that deals with some pretty tough subjects, but also reminds that sometimes the only way to have a future is to deal with your past.

Waiting for Sunrise is the story of Patsy Milstrap. If you've read the first book, you'll remember Patsy as the loving older neighbor of Kimberly Tucker Granger who helped Kimberly through a particularly difficult time. This new book fills us in the story Patsy told Kimberly about the life she and her beloved Gilbert shared and how she ended up in Cedar Key many years earlier. Waiting for Sunrise would be easily enjoyed without the benefit of reading Chasing Sunsets . . . but why not enjoy them both!

When she falls in love with Gilbert Milstrap and starts a new life with him, she hopes to put all the pain of her past behind her. Instead, those old hurts and fears stay with her and put her at risk of losing everything. Eventually, at Gilbert's suggestion, he and Patsy travel to the island of Cedar Key for a vacation. In that idyllic setting, Patsy comes face-to-face with her past and learns important lessons of family, love, and forgiveness.
