Bride In Training by Gail Gaymer Martin ~ review

Bride in Training

About the book:
Perfectionist Martin Davis's life is in turmoil. The lonely businessman's search for companionship led him to adopt a dog--a rather rambunctious terrier. And now Martin's at his wits' end. When dog trainer Emily Ireland offers to help, Martin is grateful--and intrigued. But he's wary of getting too close to the sweet, pretty Emily, especially when he learns of her scandalous past. Can Martin ever open his heart to the possibility that Emily just may be his perfect bride?

My take on this book:
In this story the protagonist Emily is dealing with issues from her past, she finds it difficult to open up about the things that happened when she was younger, so she throws herself into her work walking dogs and working part time at a no kill animal shelter. Martin Davis decides that he wants to adopt a dog, so when he shows up at the Time For Paws animal shelter he meets Emily who tells him she has the perfect dog for him, Nessie a cute terrier. When Martin hires Emily to come to his house to teach him how to care for Nessie, they become friends, but Martin soon finds himself wanting more, but will Emily's past affect Martin's feelings for her, and will Emily realize that she is worthy of love?

The cover of the story is what drew me to this one, the cute little dog on the front made me want to read the story. While it was a very quick read, the author does a great job of packing alot of story into the pages of the book. The main characters were both dealing with issues from their past, and I felt like Emily was especially suffering with self esteem issues. It was nice to watch the characters grow beyond those problems to find love. I also enjoyed the secondary storyline of Martin's mother, who was also getting a second chance, I was left wondering if there might be a relationship between her and Mike.
Overall a nice inspirational/romance that while somewhat predictable was a good read.

Book provided by the Kanawha Co. library.
