Goodnight Tweetheart by Teresa Medeiros (review)

Goodnight Tweetheart
Product description from Amazon.com:
New York Times bestselling author Teresa Medeiros absolutely dazzles in this quick-witted, laugh-out-loud funny, and highly moving love story that will set readers’ hearts atwitter.
Abigail Donovan has a lot of stuff she should be doing. Namely writing her next novel. A bestselling author who is still recovering from a near Pulitzer Prize win and the heady success that follows Oprah’s stamp of approval, she is stuck at Chapter Five and losing confidence daily. But when her publicist signs her up for a Twitter account, she’s intrigued. What’s all the fuss?
Taken under the wing of one of her Twitter followers, “MarkBaynard"—a quick witted, quick-typing professor on sabbatical—Abby finds it easy to put words out into the world 140 characters at a time. And once she gets a handle on tweets, retweets, direct messages, hashtags, and trends, she starts to feel unblocked in writing and in life. After all, why should she be spending hours in her apartment staring at her TweetDeck and fretting about her stalled career when Mark is out there traveling the world and living?
Or is he?
Told almost entirely in tweets and DMs, Goodnight Tweetheart is a truly modern take on a classic tale of love and loss—a Griffin and Sabine for the Twitter generation.

My take on this book:
I have been anxious to read this book since I read the teaser for it in The Devil Wears Plaid, and I must say it was definitely worth the wait.

Abby is a writer whose first novel was chosen by Oprah, and almost chosen for a Pulitzer prize, but she is struggling to write her second novel, stuck on chapter five she is beginning to think she is a one hit wonder. When her publisher decides she needs a twitter account to stay connected to her readers, she decides to give it a go. Her first time on she gets a tweet from Mark Baynard who coaches her on twitter etiquette. She soon finds herself looking forward to their daily tweets, which are filled with witty remarks that are laced with truths that Abby hasn't been able to share with anyone. They soon have daily chats and are even going on a couple of virtual dates, but when Mark reveals a secret he has been keeping, Abby has to take a hard look at herself, will she be able to overcome the bombshell he dropped, and will they ever meet in person? You will have to pick up this book to find out!

I loved this story, it is a very quick read and once I started it I didn't put it down, reading the tweets was very addictive and had me turning the pages as fast as possible to see what was going to be said next. The story flowed very well, and while it had me laughing out loud  on several occasions, it also brought me to tears in a few places as well. Abby's character was very down to earth, and so easy to relate to, missing her dad desperately, and responsible for her mom, she was sort of bogged down, and the tweeting relationship was so needed to get her out of box she had placed herself in. She was much more comfortable tweeting than she was in  her daily life. While the ending wasn't a truly happily ever after ending, but left more open, we get a glimpse of what might be and are allowed to hope!

The charming cover is like the icing on the cake for this book! If your looking for a quick read filled with wit, humor, and two people who are brought together thru Twitter, pick up this book your going to love it!

Even though I was provided a copy of this book for review purposes it in no way alters my opinion of this book.
My rating 5/5

  1. I think I love/hated the ending. :) However, I'm such a sucker for an HEA and it was close to one. :) Great review.

  7. I am sort of a fan of endings that are not all neatly tied up in a bow, and that sounds like the case here...I am not on Twitter or facebook, but it sounds like this would be a fun read once I got used to the "tweeting" format :)
    Enjoy your holidays
