Coming from a long line of seamstresses, Libby has yet to sew anything more than the rudimentary button or hem, but on a visit to Connecticut she learns more than just how to sew patchwork. Set in 1855 New England and London, this tender story, Libby Morgan: Reunion, follows tenacious Elizabeth (Libby) Jane Morgan through her thirteenth summer of new adventures at home and abroad. She is given a birthday gift of sewing tools and fabric, as well as old family letters to use as templates for making her first quilt. Her decision to first read the letters results in questions that only her Grandmother Morgan’s stories can answer—stories of true love, horrible loss and family connections to London nobles. Her keen eye and inquisitive nature draws her family into a mysterious investigation that tests their faith, challenges their ability to forgive, and results in a resurrection and reunion of lost hearts.

My take on this book:
Libby Morgan : Reunion is such a refreshing read! As someone who wishes she could quilt, I could easily connect with Elizabeth Jane (Libby) Morgan. Libby is twelve, about to spend her thirteenth birthday at her Grandmother Morgan's farm where she will be visiting with her aunt and cousins. Libby wants to improve her sewing skills, after all she is the daughter of an very well known tailor in Boston and her mother is an expert seamstress. For her thirteenth birthday her grandmother gives her sewing tools which includes old family letters she is to use for templates in making her first quilt. She reads the letters and soon finds herself wanting to know the truth about her family, truths that only her grandmother can tell.
Such a unique read! Well fleshed characters and a bit of a mystery made for an interesting read. Libby was such a mature girl, although at times she did have her moments. Her questions about loyalty to her deceased uncle and the remarriage of her aunt showed a real maturity that was far beyond her years. I found the inclusion of the letters into the story were an added bonus that allowed a glimpse into the past. The authors attention to detail really allowed the story to come to life, whether on the farm or in London it was easy to envision the settings as the scenes unfolded. While geared toward young adults I really think this book would appeal to fans of historical fiction young or old. Quilting fans who enjoy mystery and history are going to enjoy Libby Morgan : Reunion as well.
