A Season Of Change by Lynette Sowell

A Season of Change cover PK

About the Book:

Book One in the NEW Seasons of Pinecraft series |A Season of Change
An Amish widower finds love in unexpected places.
Amish widower Jacob Miller believes it was a mistake to visit the Amish village of Pinecraft for winter vacation, especially after his daughter is struck by a car. Stranded in Sarasota until his daughter recovers, Jacob grows increasingly wary of events that unfold in his unfamiliar surroundings—including the strange curiosity of Englischer Natalie Bennett.
Natalie never thought her circus career as an aerial silks artist would end with a blown-out knee at the age of 25. She also never knew her late mother had a secret—that she was once Amish.
When Natalie meets the Millers at the Sarasota hospital, she is attracted to their warm hospitality and simple ways—and soon wonders if they can help her find her mother’s family. As Jacob and Natalie fall in love, their worlds collide. Will their differences tear them apart? Or will their love be strong enough to blend their clashing cultures?
My take on this book:
I am always thrilled to start a new Amish series because it's like meeting new friends and become invested in their lives and community, and that's just what happened with  A Season of Change. First of all the cover certainly captured my attention, certainly a unique cover for an Amish romance for certain! The setting of Pinecraft which is in Sarasota, Florida was fresh and unique, while I knew about the retirement community I don't think I have ever actually read an Amish novel that that uses it for its setting. Jacob Miller's heart still hurts and he can't quit asking the question why over the loss of his wife and  newborn son, thing is he has two young children Zeke and Rebecca that he needs to take care of, and while others think it's time that he move on he really isn't ready. While on vacation in Pinecraft he meets Natalie Bennett and a relationship starts to develop, thing is she is an Englisher and he is Amish how can a relationship ever work between the pair?
I loved this story, it was so interesting to watch Natalie's faith grow as the story progressed. I found the glimpse of circus life quite interesting but the struggle that Jacob was dealing with was what kept me reading. The pressure he felt to marry again, and while there was an Amish girl more than willing to step into the role of wife and mother, he wanted love not just someone to take care of his children. Plenty of secondary characters really keep the story moving along, and I look forward to reading more about them in upcoming books. A unique story that is far from predictable with a more than a few twists along with a few life lessons woven in made this a story well worth reading.
A complimentary copy of this book was provided for review.
