A jilted bride desperate to save her family from ruin.
A bounty hunter seeking vengeance for a ravaged past.
An arduous trek toward justice—or redemption.

Silver Matlock and Jared Newman know traveling together is a bad idea. Bad for Silver’s already tarnished reputation in her small Colorado town. Bad for bounty hunter Jared’s secret, single-minded mission for revenge. But Silver is determined to track down the rogue who left her at the altar and stole the last remnant of her father’s fortune. And Jared’s in a hurry to hunt down the murderer who destroyed his family—even if Silver is too distractingly beautiful for comfort.

The pair takes off over mountain and desert, past bleak homesteads and raw mining towns, hot on the trail of the two villains who took what wasn’t theirs to take. Soon supplies dwindle, secrets emerge, and suspicion leave Silver and Jared at odds when they need each other most. To confront an enemy deadlier than desert rattlesnakes and rocky cliffs, Silver and Jared must learn to forgive and trust and face the question they haven’t dared voice: What happens next?

My take on this book:
Silvana Matlock finds herself jilted at the alter, but to add insult to injury it seems the scoundrel stole from her family and left them in financial straits, and her step-mother blames her. She decides to hire a bounty hunter to track him down and the bounty hunter is Jared Newman, someone who became a bounty hunter in order to find the man who robbed him of everything that he held dear, his family!  There is one catch to the job and that's the fact that she is going to accompany him on the search. As the pair gets closer to the one they hunt they also draw closer to each other but can they let go of the hurts of their past to find the future that God intends for them?

What's not to love with this story! Set in the mid 1800's in the west, it was so interesting to get to know and care about these characters as we followed along on their journey. The scenes really came to life as the author takes us from place to place, the beauty but also the harshness was easy to envision.  I really liked the characters of Silver and Jarod, she was stubborn, he was a loner of sorts, each were carrying scars from their past. I found the story a page turner from the get go, and when I thought I knew what would happen a twist occurred that I really didn't see coming. Overall fans of historical romance filled with a bit of suspense, mystery and spiritual growth will be delighted with The Heart's Pursuit by Robin Lee Hatcher. An added bonus is the reading group guide which makes this book perfect for a group setting. While this story is a bit different from what I am used to seeing from this author it was a great read none the less, a story that I couldn't put down once I started reading it!
