When two Jane Does are killed on the outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia, detective and behavioral specialist Avery North discovers they share something in common--a tattoo of a magnolia on their shoulders. Suspecting a serial killer, Avery joins forces with medical examiner Jackson Bryant to solve the crimes and prevent another murder. But it doesn't take long for them to realize that there is much more to the case than meets the eye. As they venture deep into a sinister world of human trafficking, Avery and Jackson are taken to the very edge of their abilities--and their hearts.

"Dangerous Passage "exposes a fully-realized and frightening world where every layer peeled back reveals more challenges ahead. Romantic suspense fans will be hooked from the start by Lisa Harris's first installment of the new Southern Crimes series.

    My take on this book:
"Dangerous Passage" by Lisa Harris has plenty going on. Avery North is a single mom to a teenage daughter, but she is also a detective, and some cases just hit closer to home. When she is handed the case that involves murder of teens, she can't help but think about her own teen daughter, and becomes determined to figure out what is going on before another girl is killed. With the help of medical examiner Jackson Bryant she soon begins to realize that there is more than murder going on. Can she solve the crime before they find another victim?

While this book was a bit slow to start for me, once it picked up it was a good read. Avery is a character who is dealing with quite a bit. In addition to her high stress job, she is a single mom, which makes her a character that's easy to connect with. I couldn't help but wonder where the relationship might go with Jackson. Along with murder, and the developing romance there is plenty of suspense with this story. The author touches on some very relevant topics that do happen, and could be happening anywhere. The ending left a few unanswered questions leaving me anxious to read the next book in the series. A great beginning to what promises to be an exciting new series!
