Former FBI agent Tom Parker finds it hard to adjust to life back in his hometown of Port Aster. Though an old buddy gives him a job as a detective on the local police force, not everyone approves. Tom’s just trying to keep a low profile, so when Kate Adams demands he reopen the investigation of her friend’s death, he knows his job is at stake. In fact, despite his attraction to her, Tom thinks Kate looks a bit suspicious herself.
As evidence mounts, a web of intrigue is woven around the sleepy town of Port Aster. Can Kate uncover the truth? Or will Tom stand in her way?
My take on this book:
When Kate Adam's friend, mentor and research partner winds up dead, the question is, did she kill herself? That's what the police rule the death, but Kate knows better and decides that she will do whatever it takes to get to the truth! Tom Parker is a former FBI agent who is now working as a detective in Port Aster who finds himself dealing with Kate Adams as she digs for the truth. When she starts uncovering truths that could put her in jeopardy, Tom does whatever he can to protect her, but he is also feeling an attraction to her as well.
"Deadly Devotion" is the first book in the Port Aster Secret series and if it's any indicator of the rest of the series I am hooked. I always enjoy a good mystery and this story certainly had it! I found myself thinking I knew something then the author would throw in a curve that took me on a different route altogether. A story filled with several twists and turns, that kept me guessing! The ending left me anxious for the next book in the series! Fans of mystery/suspense with a bit of romance and inspiration woven in will certainly enjoy this story. A great beginning for what promises to be an exciting new series!
