In Transformed by Tough Times Steve Reed offers compelling stories and thoughtful perspectives to help us be transformed not just in spite of, but actually because of our tough times. From his football playing days under legendary head coach, Jimmy Johnson, to his Indiana Jones like hiking treks in the jungles of Guatemala, Steve Reed has a passion for helping people who go through hard times—no matter their culture or background. As the book unfolds Reed offers biblical wisdom and insight from Jesus and many of His early followers. Written with an engaging, page-turning style many have found the book hard to put down. In addition individuals and small group leaders have benefited from the free companion 24-session small group Bible study guide that can be downloaded from the book’s website for free.

Steve Reed is the Chief Encouragement Officer and Cross Cultural Catalyst for Daybreak International, a missions organization he founded that is dedicated to planting churches for the marginalized and forgotten peoples of the world. When not traveling and speaking to groups, he coaches individuals desiring to use their tough times to go further in their personal and spiritual growth. My take on this book:
We see it on the news every day, people are suffering. The economy is unstable and it seems like bad news is the only news we hear. While uncertainty and tough times are just a fact of life it's how we decide to handle those times that makes the difference. In Steve Reed's "Transformed by Tough Times" he blends his own tough times together with Biblical scripture to show readers that they can ultimately be transformed by tough times. After all faith is easy during the good times, but if we hold to  faith in God during tough times he will lead us thru it, and ultimately our faith will become stronger because of those tough times.

"Transformed by Tough Times" is like getting two books in one. The first part of the book deals with "The Suffering Clause" in this section we glimpse the author's story along with several others, but the chapters that really stood out for me in this section were Jesus' Promises to His Followers and The Secret to Outlasting Tough Times.

The second portion of the book is Transformation in Tough Times which offers hope and encouragement.

This is a wonderful read, for anyone who may need encouragement, or just want answers as to why we suffer. The down to earth style of writing is so easy to read and understand. Each chapter opens with a quote or scripture verse which is always a plus for me. Overall, a very well written book that is perfect for anyone whether they are going thru tough times right now or not. I finished this book feeling like I had gained some wonderful insight into how to turn my tough times into triumph!
