They may not have enough evidence to convict him, but they have enough to ruin his life.
Dr. Matt Newman thought he was leaving his life in private practice for a better one in academic medicine. But the kidnappers who attacked him as he left his last shift in the ER have no such plans—they just want him dead. Bound and in the trunk of his car, Matt’s only thought is escape. He does so, but at a price: a head injury that lands him in the ICU . . . where he awakens to discover he’s being charged with murder.
Sandra Murray is a fiery, redheaded lawyer who swore she was done with doctors. But when Matt calls, she knows she can’t walk away from defending someone who is truly innocent.
Matt’s career is going down the drain. His freedom and perhaps his life may be next. But with the police convinced he’s a murderer and the kidnappers still trying to finish what they started, finding the truth—and the faith to keep going—will be the toughest stress test Matt has ever endured.
My take on this book:
Dr. Matt Newman's life seems to be headed in the right direction,he is ready to leave private practice behind. he will be starting a new job as an assistant professor of Surgery at Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. His job will be teaching and he really feels like he has a lot to share with his students. His hope is that the change will help him lead a more normal life without always being on call, perhaps even strengthen his relationship with his girlfriend Jennifer. Everything changes in an instant though when he is kidnapped from the parking garage on his last night of work. When he wakes up in the ICU he feels fortunate to be alive, that is until he realizes that he is being charged with murder! What's going on, how can this be happening, and who would try and kill him?
I found "Stress Test" to be a suspense filled medical based drama that seemed oh so realistic. The story grabbed me from the first pages and the questions of who would have done this and why kept the plot racing along for me. Because the story revolves around a doctor I was leary that I might become overwhelmed with medical jargon, but that wasn't the case at all, instead the mystery and suspense was the main focus. Mr. Mabry does weave in a few medical procedures into the story, but I found that they just kept the plot moving, and really lent a true air of authenticity. Anyone who enjoys a fast paced, suspense filled drama, mystery that has interesting characters, romance along with spiritual undertones woven into the story will certainly enjoy this one. I found it an interesting story that I really couldn't put down!
