After the loss of her husband and the birth of her baby, Charlotte has had a long, hard year. But when a notorious robber believes she knows the location of a long-lost treasure, she flees to Cheyenne and opens a dressmaker's shop to lie low and make a living. When wealthy cattle baron and political hopeful Barrett Landry enters the shop to visit her best customer, Charlotte feels drawn to him.

If Barrett is to be a senator of the soon-to-be state of Wyoming, he must make a sensible match, and Miriam has all the right connections. Yet he can't shake the feeling that Charlotte holds the key to his heart and his future.

Soon the past comes to call, and Barrett's plans crumble around him. Will Charlotte and Barrett find the courage to look love in the face? Or will their fears blot out any chance for happiness?

My take on this book:
Cheyenne Wyoming Territory is the setting for "Waiting for Spring." It's 1886 and its been a year since Charlotte Harding's world was turned upside down, and she was forced to flee to Cheyenne so that she and her young son David might be safe. While she has made a new life and friends, even opening a dress shop, she still worried for the safety of her son. When she meets Barrett Landry, a wealthy rancher who has political aspirations they are drawn to each other, but he needs a wife with political connections and she can't risk her past being exposed, what will happen between them?

Charlotte was such a nice character, a wonderful mother willing to do whatever she needed to do to protect her son. I so wanted things to work out for Charlotte. I enjoyed reading about her dress shop, as well as her interactions with her customers. There are several secondary characters that really propel this story along including Gwen Amos and her daughter Rose who was a great help to Charlotte. A great well rounded story, romance, with mystery, suspense as well as the historical setting made this book a real winner for me. To be honest I was drawn to this book because of it's beautiful cover, but the characters and story are what truly shine with this one. Amanda Cabot is easily one of my favorite historical fiction writers, and I look forward to reading the next book in the Westward Winds series!
