Centered on one of Suzanne Woods Fisher’s most loved characters, this is the story fans have eagerly anticipated. The precocious M.K. is all grown up (well, almost) and ready to take on the world–with surprising results. Fisher’s trademark plot twists and turns are as unexpected and satisfying as ever in this third book in the Stoney Ridge Seasons series.
In her wildest dreams, spunky and impulsive nineteen-year-old Mary Kate Lapp never imagined herself behind a schoolteacher’s desk. A run-in (literally) with the schoolteacher compels her to act as a substitute teacher, just as her restless desire to see the world compels her to apply for a passport . . . just in case. The only thing of interest to M.K. in the sleepy Amish community of Stoney Ridge is the unexplained death of a sheep farmer that coincided with the arrival of a mysterious young man into the community. Frustrated that no one takes the crime seriously, she takes matters into her own hands. Unfortunately, as tends to be the case for M.K., she jumps headlong into trouble.

My take on this book:
I have loved the entire Stoney Ridge Seasons series and couldn't wait to read Mary Kate's story who happened to be one of my favorite characters in the series. All I can say is that Suzanne saved the best story for last!
At the age of nineteen Mary Kate also known as M.K. is still a bit irresponsible and full of mischief, but when one of her stunts has her running into the Amish teacher she is forced to grow up quick and take over the responsibilities of being the teacher. Will she take the job seriously? Well in the beginning M.K. doesn't do very well, but soon with the help of a former teacher things start to look up. Will M.K. ever really settle down, and do we really want her too! Added to this is an unexpected death, a mysterious stranger comes to town, along with that someone comes up missing, and you have a page turner filled with plenty of interesting happenings, that include a few unexpected twists!

From the beginning paragraphs Ms. Fisher creates a story that's filled with a bit of mystery along with plenty of excitement for nineteen year old M.K. Lapp who had been longing for a bit of adventure. I just loved the words the author used to express the restlessness that M.K. felt. They allowed for such vivid scenes to play out in my head, I could just imagine M.K. feeling the need to spread her wings and fly to someplace that would seem more exciting than her tiny town!
I have read each book in this wonderful series, and for me each story just keeps getting better. I enjoyed meeting the new characters in the story, and loved reconnecting with the Lapp family, including Doozy the dog! Fans of Amish fiction will love this story, but anyone who enjoys a bit of mystery, romance and a story that will keep you glued to the pages then your going to want to read the entire series, and if you have never read anything by Ms. Fisher why not start with the Stoney Ridge Seasons, I promise you wont be disappointed. On a scale of one of one to five I would easily give this entire series a six because it's just that good!
