Rick thought being a sheriff's deputy in the small New Mexico town of Ultima would be a quiet job--but that was before he met Mrs. Pendergast, the local busybody who fancies herself an amateur sleuth.

When Mrs. P sees a tweet asking for help on her new smartphone, she's determined to find out if the "tweep" is okay; and it's all Rick and her granddaughter, Sylvie, can do to keep up with her!

My take on this book:

Mrs.Marjorie Pendergast is  a retiree who thinks its her job to help protect the citizens of her tiny town. The police are pretty familiar with her, but when she comes in claiming that someone might have been murdered well that's new even for her. She tells them that she has received a tweet saying that someone had been murdered. The chief of police doesn't really believe her but assigns Deputy Ricky Valdez to the case. Mrs. Pendergast is determined to stay in the middle of the investigation and help the police figure out who-dun-it!

Short stories have to be hard to write, keeping it short, but providing plenty of information has to be tricky. Ellis Drake makes it seem easy though, by providing a few twists in a murder mystery to keep it interesting. The story had the feel of a cozy mystery for me,and the hint of a possible romance between Sylvie and Rick added to the story. The ending leaves this reader hoping that the author might just pen a follow up story.
