About the book:
Three lives are bound by a single book . . . and the cleansing waters of Molasses Creek.
Having traveled to the ends of the earth as a flight attendant, Ally Green has finally returned to the Lowcountry to bury her father as well as the past. But Vesey Washington is still living across the creek, and theirs is a complicated relationship—he was once her best friend . . . and also part of the reason she’s stayed away so long. When Ally discovers a message her father left behind asking her to quit running, it seems her past isn’t through with her yet.
As Ally’s wandering spirit wrestles with a deep longing to flee again, a young woman on the other side of the world escapes her life of slavery in the rock quarries of Nepal. A mysterious sketchbook leads Sunila Kunari to believe there’s more to her story than she’s ever been told, and she’s determined to follow the truth wherever it leads her.
A deep current intertwines the lives of these three souls, and a destiny of freedom, faith, and friendship awaits them all on the banks of Molasses Creek.
My take on this book:
As a former flight attendant Ally Green has flown all over the world, but it took her daddy dying to get her to return to Mount Pleasant South Carolina. She has been running away from something most of her life, and it has something to do with her childhood friend Vesey Washington. She realizes sometimes a person has to take a few steps backwards so that they can move forward. Will she finally stop running and deal with her past?

We see this story  thru the eyes of Vesey, Ally and a lady who lives on the other side of the world, Sunila Kunari. Each character has a unique voice and the author does a great job of transitioning between the three. I thought each character was very well developed, although Ally's character was a bit difficult for me to connect with at first, but once I got more of her story I started understanding her. The character of Vesey had to be my favorite. The one thing that was different with this story was the characters were older than I normally read.

Overall this book started out really slowly for me, but as the story progressed I became invested in the characters and wanted to see how the story would end.
