Product Description
A storm the size of Texas brews when Gloria Powell and Kai Chang meet in a Dallas hotel. They have come to discuss the future of Lily, the daughter Gloria adopted from China and the sister Kai hopes to reclaim. Kai is a doctor who had to give up her little sister during the Cultural Revolution and has since discovered that an inherited genetic defect may be waiting to fatally strike Lily.
Gloria's relationship with her daughter is tattered and strained, and the arrival of Kai, despite the woman's apparent good intentions, makes Gloria fearful. Gloria longs to restore her relationship with Lily, but in the wake of this potentially devastating diagnosis, is Kai an answer to prayer...or will her arrival force Gloria to sacrifice more than she ever imagined?

My take on this book:
I became hooked on Patti Lacy's work after reading "The Rhythm of Secrets" and couldn't wait to read this book. Well all I can say it was worth the wait!
The authors writing style is captivating. Gloria Powell had always wanted a child, so after jumping thru hoops and cutting thru red tape she and her husband Andrew believe there is a baby waiting for them in China so they make the trip from Texas. When they arrive though the promised baby isn't there instead the child is a young girl, but Gloria isn't thwarted instead she knows its the child God intended for them to have. They take her home to Texas and rename her Joy, because she is the joy of their life. although she does become a bit rebellious in her teen years. Turns out Joy is actually Lily and Lily has a sister Kai who made a death bed promise to her mother in China to reclaim the sister that had been at the orphanage. Kai now works in the states and becomes determined to find her sister to not only full fill the wish she made to her mother, but also because there may be a genetic issue that could possibly affect Lily. What happens when Kai finds her sister, how will it affect Lily(Joy) and her adoptive family?
This story was touching and inspiring. The author deals with foreign adoption a topic I haven't read a lot about,so it was a bit educational for me. She also touches on the topic of teen rebellion, where the teen is trying to figure out where she fits in the world to weave a rich story that had plenty of twists and turns and an ending that was quite satisfying. While Gloria smothered her daughter, I really could understand her motivations, Andrew seemed solid and really was understanding of all parties much like a pastor might be.I really couldn't help but think about Lily's biological mother. Each of the characters seemed so realistic I often forgot that I was reading a work of fiction.
If you enjoy a story filled with drama, suspense and family ties with a positive christian message woven in then your going to enjoy "Reclaiming Lily."
