Heiress by Susan May Warren ~ Litfuse Blog Tour with giveaway

Product Details

 About the book:

They can buy anything they want—fame, power, beauty, even loyalty.

But they can’t buy love.

The beautiful and wealthy heiress daughters of August Price can buy everything their hearts desire. But what if their desire is to be loved, without an enormous price tag attached? When one sister betrays another for the sake of love, will she find happiness? And what happens when the other sets out across the still untamed frontier to find it—will she discover she’s left it behind in the glamorous world of the New York gilded society? What price will each woman pay for being an heiress?

Set in the opulent world of the Gilded Age, two women discover that being an heiress just might cost them everything they love.

My take on this book:

What an interesting story this one was. Ms. Warren easily transported me back to the days of 1896. The setting for this one was New York City. Esme and Jinx Price are the daughters of a wealthy newspaper mogul, and they were as different as night and day.Esme the older sister is determined only to marry for love, and aspires to write for her fathers paper, although her father and mother expects her to marry someone befitting her station in life.Esme becomes engaged to one of the most eligible bachelors around, but doesn't seem to care, and when she and her dad have a falling out, she leaves the city to embark on an adventure on her own. Jinx on the other hand wants all society has to offer, including marriage, and was often envious of her sister. Do the Price girls get the lives they hope for?
"Heiress," is the first book in the Daughter's of Fortune series, and if the characters and storyline are any indication its going to be a great series. I am always a fan of historical fiction and this one fits the bill.I loved that the book spans a few years during the turn of the century. With plenty of twists and turns and a few secrets, the plot really held my attention. My favorite character had to be Esme. I loved her determination. I thought she was brave to head off to Montana, using the assumed name of Esme Stewart to run her own newspaper "The Copper Valley Times.
Labeled a Christian fiction the story doesn't come off as preachy instead it felt more like a gentle reminder of what is important in life, and allows us to see the consequences of choices made by the sisters. The ending leaves me anxious to read the next book in the series! Highly recommended.

  2. I have one of her books as an ebook, but I don't think I've read it yet. It sounds like you really enjoyed this one. Glad youe enjoyed it. I agree that when Christian fiction gets too preachy it turns me off a bit too.
