About the book:

In this third Jane Perry novel, Laurel Dewey takes Jane out of Denver to the small town of Midas where the Chief of Police is a close friend of Jane's boss. Jacob Van Gorden, the fifteen-year-old son of a prominent area businessman, has disappeared and all signs point to his abductor being Jordan Copeland, a man who committed a similar crime decades ago. Jane settles into this little community for much longer than she wants, living with a preacher and his family (including their eccentric teenage daughter who was Jacob's girlfriend). There are signs that Jacob is still alive, so the clock is ticking. And as Jane investigates Jordan Copeland, she begins to have doubts about his guilt and begins to uncover signs of devastating &ndash and even deadly &ndash secrets all around Midas.
Meanwhile, Jane must deal with two considerable secrets of her own. One hits her in the gut before she leaves Denver and the other creeps up on her from the most unlikely of places. And on top of this, Hank Ross, owner of a bar in Midas, has somehow managed to find a way beneath Jane's armor-plated defenses, forcing her to contend with feelings she hasn't allowed to surface for a very long time.
Revelations is the most powerful and personal Jane Perry novel yet. Teeming with the passions and ambiguities that make Laurel Dewey so compelling to read, it is a breathtaking story of mysteries revealed and withheld.

My take on this book:
I became totally hooked on this series after reading Redemption a few months ago, and while I totally enjoyed that book I can easily say that this one is even better!
This time Jane Perry is facing a health scare, and while she wants to take a week and hide out at home, its not going to happen. When Sgt. Weyler gets a call from Bo Lowry, police chief of Midas Colorado asking for help Weyler decides he will go help out his old friend and wants Jane Perry to come along. Seems a fifteen year old boy Jake Van Gorden was kidnapped while trying to commit suicide. There are plenty of clues and the chief already has a suspect, but Jane soon discovers there are plenty of secrets in the town of Midas, can she solve the crime before its to late?
There are plenty of things going on in this story from the first pages. Jane is a no nonsense detective that doesn't quit until she gets the answers she needs. She is fighting a personal battle from the first pages which makes her seem very realistic and easy to relate to.  When she arrives in Midas she and the police chief butt heads from the get go, and he actually didn't want her help. I did enjoy the police lingo that the chief was so fond of using!

There are plenty of interesting characters and a top notch mystery that kept me flipping the pages, I found this a book that I couldn't put down and even though its 464 pages I found myself zooming through it to get to the conclusion, and speaking of conclusions the author certainly left me anxious to see what is going to happen for Jane Perry in the next book in the series!

While this book is the third in a series I feel like the author gives us enough background information that it can easily be read as a stand alone work, but this is such a great series that I highly recommend reading it in its entirety!

About the author:

Laurel Dewey was born and raised in Los Angeles. She began her career working in public relations for such celebrities as Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra before writing a string of mystery radio plays for Los Angeles radio networks. She is the author of two nonfiction books on plant medicine, a Silver Spur nominated Western novella, and hundreds of articles. She has appeared as a featured guest on more than 300 national radio and television programs and she has lectured extensively across the United States and Canada. To write the Jane Perry novels, Dewey immersed herself in detailed research, interviewing Colorado homicide detectives and traveling on “ride-alongs” with street cops. She lives in Western Colorado with her husband. If you would like to learn more about Ms. Dewey and the other exciting books in this series click here.

Here's a look back at the first two books in this exciting series:

About Protector, which is the first book in the series:

Here is the gut-wrenching, heartrending story of hard-bitten Denver homicide detective Jane Perry and nine-year-old Emily Lawrence. Emily has witnessed the murder of her parents ? murders authorities believe have ties to a larger wave of crime. But Emily can't recall a thing about the killings. When the murderers come after Emily, Jane's boss sends the two of them to a remote town in Colorado. There, Jane, who doesn't have a maternal bone in her body, must pose as Emily's mother and serve as her protector. At the same time, she needs to help Emily slowly remember the devastating event without traumatizing her further. And while she does so, the killer is closing in . . . .Protector marks the debut of Jane Perry, an immensely flawed, utterly sympathetic character. She will shock you, confound you, astonish you, and ultimately grip your soul.

About Redemption book two in the series:

After a series of life-changing events, detective Jane Perry has resigned from the Denver Police Department. Trying to make a living as a private investigator, she finds her past haunting her at every turn and old demons rising up to torment her.

Then Jane meets Kit Clark, a woman who wants Jane to drive with her from Colorado to Northern California in search of a man who matches the description of the killer who murdered her granddaughter many years before. Kit’s convinced that the man has started to kill again and she wants to stop him. Jane thinks the woman is crazy—especially when she discovers that she’s a New Age devotee—but Jane is desperate for work. They head on the road, gathering critical information about the killer, and themselves, along the way. Jane has recently experienced several events in her life that seem to border on the paranormal, though she is a complete skeptic in that regard. Now, those experiences come with greater frequency. And when the trail of the killer leads to a fundamentalist church, the consequences of belief and faith propel her toward a deadly confrontation.
Once again, Laurel Dewey has created a novel as rich in character as it is in suspense. Juxtaposing spirituality and religion, mission and manipulation, revenge and redemption, this powerful, taut mystery confirms the author as a top-flight storyteller and promises to resonate in your soul.
I actually got hooked on this series after reading this one, here is the link to my review.
