Amish Prayers compiled by Beverly Lewis ~ review

Amish Prayers: Heartfelt Expressions of Humility, Gratitude, and Devotion
Product Description from Amazon.com:
The Amish as well as other Anabaptist groups have used the same book of prayers for centuries. Now for the first time a selection of these prayers is readily available in English. This exclusive authentic translation from the original German--with an introduction by Beverly Lewis--will give readers insights into the spiritual foundations of the Plain people. Each prayer is paired with a Scripture passage to draw readers closer to God. This hardcover illustrated gift book is perfect for old and new fans of Amish fiction alike.

My take on this book:
I enjoy reading anything that has to do with the Amish, so when I learned that Beverly Lewis, one of my favorite amish fiction writers had compiled a book of Amish Prayers I was anxious to read it. She has compiled a selection of prayers from the Die Ernsthafte Christenpflicht the German prayer book that has been in use by the Anibabtist since 1708.The prayers have been translated from German to Amish, and each prayer has been paired with a scripture verse.
The table of contents list the topical categories in which the prayers fall under, and make it very easy for the reader to find a prayer based on particular need. The illustrations peppered throughout the book further give the reader a glimpse of the plain life.
While the book is compact at only 139 pages, the prayers inside allowed me to glimpse their faith and spirituality. This book would make a great little gift, easily appealing to the many people including myself who are fascinated with the Amish way of life. Because of the scriptures that are included I think it would also be a great devotional. I am certain it will be a book that I will refer to often.
