U.S. Marshal Jake Taylor has seen plenty of action during his years in law enforcement. But he'd rather go back to Iraq than face his next assignment: protection detail for federal judge Liz Michaels. His feelings toward Liz haven't warmed in the five years since she lost her husband--and Jake's best friend--to possible suicide. How can Jake be expected to care for the coldhearted workaholic who drove his friend to despair?
As the danger mounts and Jake gets to know Liz better, his feelings slowly start to change. When it becomes clear that an unknown enemy may want her dead, the stakes are raised. Because now both her life--and his heart--are in mortal danger.
Full of the suspense and romance Irene Hannon's fans have come to love, Fatal Judgment is a thrilling story that will keep readers turning the pages late into the night.
My take on this book:
When U.S. Marshal Jake Taylor get a call that his next assignment will be to protect federal judge Elizabeth Michaels he is less than happy. His best friend Doug was married to her, and from the things Doug told him before his death, the marriage was very unhappy and it was Liz's fault. Doug said she was cold hearted and only her only focus was on her job. Can he put his feelings aside and do the assignment?
When Liz Michael's sister is shot in the back of the head, Liz believes her sisters abusive husband is to blame. Because she is a federal judge she needs to be protected by U.S. Marshals. When she realizes Jake will be the marshal assigned to keep her safe she wonders what her husband told him about her. As she and Jake spend time together one thing is for sure Jake is starting to realize that his opinion of Liz may be wrong. Did his friend Doug lie to him?
When it becomes evident that Liz may have been the shooters target, can Jake keep her safe, and figure out who is out to get her?
There is never a dull moment in this story! It grabs you from the first pages with the tragic shooting of Liz's sister, and how Liz's life is turned upside down while she is being protected from someone who may be out to kill her. Liz is very level headed, and almost always holds herself together but there are a few instances where that facade slips. Jake's character really stood out. He goes above and beyond where his job is concerned, and is devoted to his family.
A fantastic first book in Irene Hannon's new Guardians of Justice series. If this book is any indicator this series is going to be great!
Anyone who is a fan of light romance, mystery and suspense with a bit of a christian message woven in will enjoy this book.
