Blind Hope: An Unwanted Dog and the Woman She Rescued by Kim Meeder, and Laurie Sacher

Blind Hope: An Unwanted Dog and the Woman She RescuedSynopsis from Goodreads:

An unwanted dog. An emotional rescue.

Sometimes the life you save may be your own.
Laurie had her own shattered dreams before she came to work at Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch—the ranch of rescued dreams—where broken horses and broken children encounter healing every day. Reaching out to save a dog in need, Laurie soon realized that the dog was rescuing her.
An inspiring true story told through the engaging voice of Kim Meeder, Blind Hope reveals poignant life lessons Laurie experienced from her ailing, yet courageous canine friend. Despite the blindness of her dog—and her own heart—Laurie uncovered what she really needed most: authentic love, unconditional trust, and true acceptance, faults and all.
As Laurie and her dog, Mia, both learned to follow the lead of a master they couldn't’t see, Laurie discovered the transforming power of God’s selfless love even for imperfect and selfish people—and she experienced a greater love than she has ever known.
My take on this book:
This is the story of Laurie Sacher and her adopted dog Mia.
Laurie had come to work for the summer at Crystal Peak Youth Ranch and then was hired full time.
Laurie had always suffered with self esteem issues so when she hears about a dog that needs rescued she decides this might be the thing to help her.
She decides to adopt the dog sight unseen, a dog that she has been told is an Aussie Mix that is 9 yrs old. Well Laurie could just envision a beautiful Aussie that she could take on walks, a stylish dog that would help her fit in.
When she goes to pick the dog up she is shocked its not the dog she had envisioned , really not pretty at all. It was skinny had an ugly coat and terrible bad breath. She really didn't want to take the dog, but decided to anyway.
She gets the dog home renames it Mia and starts bonding with her. When she takes Mia to the vet she is told that the dog has diabetes and will eventually go blind.
After several blunders Mia finally learns to trust Laurie and they develop an unconditional love for each other.
Laurie soon realizes that even though in the beginning she didn't want Mia God had given her the dog she needed. A dog that helped her get her faith back.
This book is was very easy for me to relate to because
my dog Marley is an adopted dog, normally I only had Yorkies, but my son wanted a big dog, after looking high and low, I really wanted a Doberman, we wound up with a free puppy from the paper, the lessons I have learned from this dog are amazing. She isn't pampered at all like my little dogs but she seems to know what we want from her even before it is said. She has grown into the gentle giant in our household. I have often wondered at God's wisdom of giving us what he knows we need instead of what we want.
I reviewed this book for Readers Favorite in no way does it alter my opinion of this book.

  1. Oh this sounds teriffic. After years of raising German Shepherds I finally adopted two older sisters from the local shelter. They are slow but sure coming out of the shell but at times I wish they could talk as I know they would have a tale to tell
