After the E.R.--Stories Depicting the Aftermath of Tragedy By Anna M. Lamont

After the E.R.: Stories Depicting the Aftermath of TragedyProduct Description

Life is fragile. Anna M. Lamont’s short stories reproduce this truth with frightening accuracy. Her stories capture how even the most ordinary events – like a trip to the dentist of shopping with a spouse – can result in tragic and unexpected consequences, which leave family and friends with a terrible and agonizing burden to accept, overcome, and move away from in order to survive.

My take on this book:
This is a book of three short fiction stories that show us how tragedy can strike very suddenly and the aftermath that the tragedy can cause in the life of the survivor and the survivors families. In my opinion the best story out of the three was the first one in which a man goes to the dentist because of a chipped tooth and has an allergic reaction to novocaine that eventually leads to his death.

This book was hard for me to read, not because of the subjects of each story, but because the author goes into such great descriptions of back stories that aren't really relevant to the tragedy that each main character suffers, that I found myself literally skimming thru each story to get to the heart of the story.

Overall this book reminded me of how precious life truly is, and how quickly our lives can be irrevocably changed by tragedy or sickness.

I was provided a copy of this book by Dorrance Publishing in return for an honest review!
