She came to America searching for her brother. Instead all she's found is a web of danger.
Cara Hamilton had thought her brother to be dead. Now, clutching his letter, she leaves Ireland for America, desperate to find him. Her search leads her to a houseful of curious strangers, and one man who claims to be a friend-Rourke Walsh. Despite her brother's warning, Cara trusts Rourke, revealing her purpose in coming to New York.
She's then thrust into a world of subterfuge, veiled threats, and attempted murder, including political revolutionaries from the homeland out for revenge. Her questions guide her ever nearer to locating her brother-but they also bring her closer to destruction as those who want to kill him track her footsteps.
With her faith in tatters, all hope flees. Will her brother finally surface? Can he save Cara from the truth about Rourke... a man she's grown to love?

My take on this book:
I am a huge fan of historical fiction, but sometimes the stories can run together because they are so similar. Well that certainly isn't the case with "No Safe Harbor" by Elizabeth Ludwig. I was drawn in from the beginning pages with this one, because I just couldn't imagine coming alone from Ireland to America like Cara Hamilton did. She had believed that her twin brother was dead, but when she receives a letter from him urging her to come to America but to trust no one. Well she embarks on a journey that will have her traveling from Ireland to arrive in New York where she isn't sure who she can trust. When she meets Rourke Walsh, she is drawn to him, and soon finds herself disclosing to him the secret of why she his in America. Does she make a mistake trusting him, and more than that she is starting to fall in love with him.

There was so much more than a historical romance in the pages of this story. I enjoyed the mystery and suspense that kept me guessing, and when I thought I knew something the author threw me for a loop. The author weaves together, history, mystery, suspense, romance, adventure with a dash of  intrigue making this an appealing story for fans of historical fiction, but will certainly find an audience with romantic suspense fans as well!
