My take on this book:

This book takes place during 1812 in England. When Cassandra Bainbridge's fiance puts an end to their engagement she decides to head to the country to try and get over her broken heart, she also intends to pursue her interest in ballooning, after all why not, men fly so why can't she? Well when her ex-fiance decides to show back up in her life, ballooning is the last thing he wants her to be involved in. Will she give in to his demands or will she pursue her dreams?

I am guilty of judging a book by it's cover, and was expecting to be swept away by this story, unfortunately it was just a lukewarm read for me. I thought the beginning of the story drug a bit, but several chapters in I did become more interested in the story and wanted to see how things would work out. The fact that the author wove in a bit of mystery and suspense salvaged the story for me. I will say that the author does a wonderful job of bringing the Regency time period to life, her descriptions allowed me to easily envision the scenes taking place in the story. I could just imagine the balloon rides,as well as the countryside. While this book is the second in The Daughter's of Bainbridge House series I really feel like the author gives enough information that it could be read as a stand alone work.

Overall, a middle of the road read for me. While the plot was unique I just didn't connect with the characters. I have enjoyed Ms. Eakes books in the past and look forward to reading more from her.
