October 30, 2012 Jubilee, Texas

It's Christmastime in Jubilee, Texas, but Lissette Moncrief is having a hard time celebrating . . .

Especially after she accidentally smashes her car into Rafferty Jones's pick-up truck. Yes, he's a whole lot of handsome—from the tips of his boots to the top of his Stetson. But he's no Christmas present. Lissy's not about to let herself get whisked away by his charming ways and words . . . only to watch him drive away in the end.

But what Lissy doesn't know is Rafferty's in town just to meet her—and to give her a share in a windfall that doesn't rightly belong to him. At first, he just wants to do his good deed and get out. But one look at this green-eyed beauty has him deciding to turn this into a Christmas to remember . . . making promises he's determined to keep—whether she believes in them or not.

My take on this book:

Lissette Moncrief had always had an infatuation with cowboys, and when she was sixteen a fortune teller even tells her a cowboy is in her future. Coulda been because she lives in Texas, but when she dates and marries Jake Moncrief, her very own cowboy, her romantic hopes far outweighed real life. When he is killed in Afghanistan, she is surprised to learn that he didn't name her or their two year old son Kyle as beneficiaries, instead he named his half brother Rafferty Jones. When she learns that her son Kyle is slowly going deaf, things just don't seem like they could get any worse. When a quick trip to the store has her backing into a handsome strangers truck, she has a bit of a meltdown. Little does she know that the stranger is actually Rafferty Jones her husband's half brother, and that he has come to town to see her, and give back what he feels like is rightfully hers. Feelings develop between the pair, but will they act upon them?

This is the third book in the Jubilee, Texas series written by Lori Wilde, but can easily be read as a stand alone work, I have the other two books on my Kindle but haven't read them yet and had no problems diving right into this story.

The characters were so very realistic. Recently widowed, we learn that Lissette and her husband Jake really weren't very happy before he decided to re enlist for another tour of duty, but it had to be a bit of a shock to know that he left his life insurance policy to someone else, after all they had a two year old child. Rafferty Jones was such a wonderful character and oh so easy to fall for. He didn't have an easy childhood, but he was still such a wonderful caring man, when he decides to come to Texas to return what his half brother left him. A relationship is the last thing that Lissette or Rafferty want but the chemistry between them is static. As they start to deal with their past they realize that they just might be able to have a future. Overall, if you enjoy a nice Texas romance that will pull you in and keep you reading, along with a plot that will have you hoping for a happily ever after, then you just might enjoy this one. I will certainly be going back and reading the first two books in this series because I enjoyed this story so much!
