Unending Devotion by Jody Hedlund ~ Litfuse Blog Tour with review and giveaway

Unending Devotion
Michigan, 1883

In Her Darkest Hours, Is He the Man She Needs?
Lily Young longs to find her lost sister or will die trying. Heedless of any danger, she searches logging camps and towns, posing as a photographer’s assistant. And then she arrives in Harrison, Michigan–and the sights of Connell McCormick.
Connell is determined to increase the fortune of his lumber-baron father and figures as long as he’s living an upright life, that’s what matters. But when Lily arrives in town she upends his world, forcing him to confront the truth that dangerous men have gained too much power while good men turn a blind eye.
Vexing but persuasive, Lily soon secures Connell’s help, drawing them ever closer to each other. Will standing for what’s right cost them both everything?

My take on this book:
Lily Young blames herself because her younger sister Daisy ran away, you see after the orphanage they had been staying in tells them they are to old to stay Lily talked her sister Daisy into going with a family that she thought would be good to her, just until Lily could establish a place for them, but when Daisy runs away from that home Lily blames herself and is determined to find her whatever it takes. Posing as a photographers assistant she searches towns and logging camps searching for Daisy, and the only information she has is that Daisy might have been forced to work as a prostitute. Knowing this Lily is determined to rescue her, if only she can find her. While searching for her sister she tries to help any unfortunate girl who has been forced into this lifestyle.  Will she ever be able to find her sister?

Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres so I was excited to read this one. Rich details that bring the story to life along with a very well written plot that immediately pulled me in and  made this a great story. I thought Lily was a wonderful character, and while she felt guilt over her sister, it was easy to see what she believed in, and she wasn't afraid to do whatever she needed to do. I found the life in the logging camps to be quite interesting, and the author really brought the men to life. Overall, the author blends together suspense, romance, along with a bit of mystery to make this book a great read. I thought the author handled the subject of the sex trade industry during that time splendidly. She allows the reader to understand what is going on without being overly graphic, and gives the positive inspirational messages in such a way without being overwhelming. Historical fiction fans will certainly enjoy this one, I know I did!

About the author:
Image of Jody HedlundJody Hedlund is an award-winning author of inspirational historical romances, including the best-selling historical, The Preacher's Bride.
As a busy mama-writer, she has the wonderful privilege of teaching her crew of 5 children at home. In between grading math papers and giving spelling tests, she occasionally does a load of laundry and washes dishes. When she's not busy being a mama, you can find her in front of her laptop. Sometimes her family thinks her fingers are super-glued to the keyboard, but in reality she usually finds her writing time in the wee hours of the morning and then for a couple of hours in the afternoon when done with school. She views writing as God's gift to her--a creative outlet that helps bring fresh energy to her parenting.
She's living testimony that amidst the crazy chaos of running a large family, it's still possible to squeeze in time for writing and fulfill the dream of publication. She chronicles both the joys and difficulties of her journey toward publication on her blog, Author Jody Hedlund:
