Synopsis:
Only one pair of boots-and the cowboy wearing them-can get Annie out of the mess she's in. ""

Annie Wilkerson is Moose Creek's premiere horse trainer and equine columnist for "Montana Living." Money is tight as she tries to put her kid-sister through college and provide for her young nephew.

When Annie's column is cancelled, she's given first shot at a new lovelorn column-and she can't afford to turn it down. Only problem is . . . Annie's never been in love.

Always resourceful, she reluctantly strikes a deal with the town's smooth-talking ladies' man Dylan Taylor: She'll work with his ailing horse, Braveheart, if he'll help her answer the reader letters.

Working closely with Dylan is harder than Annie imagined, and she quickly realizes she may have misjudged him. But her unwavering conviction that cowboys are nothing but trouble has kept her heart safe for years. And she can't risk getting hurt now.

The more Annie tries to control things, the more they fall apart. Her feelings are spinning out of control, and her sister's antics are making life increasingly more difficult. Annie knows she needs to turn the reins over to God, but surrender has never come easily.

When Dylan reveals his feelings for her, Annie doesn't know what to trust-her head or her heart.

The trouble with "this" cowboy is that he might just be exactly what she needs.

My take on this book:

Dylan Taylor is a smooth talking ladies man and Annie Wilkerson isn't interested. When Dylan's best horse, Braveheart, has a condition that has his vet suggesting he put the horse down, Dylan goes to Annie for help. Annie knows just about everything there is to know about horses. She writes a bi-weekly column in Montana Living today called "Ask Avery" which answers readers questions about equine problems.  When Annie gets a call from her editor informing her that her column is being cut from the magazine, although she is offered another column, thing is its a column giving advice to the lovelorn. Annie has never been in love so how can she write an advice column?  She decides to strike up a deal with Dylan, she will help his horse if he will help her with her column. As she gets to know the true Dylan she realizes he is different that she first assumed. Will Annie decide that some cowboys aren't so bad after all?

Annie Wilkerson is someone you just can't help but like. She is looking out for her twenty year old sister Seirra, who by the way is raising four year old Ryder, works hard and is just a down to earth person, dealing with life's issues. She doesn't trust cowboys and I could certainly understand why. She wants safe and predictable in her life but that isn't what God has in mind for her. I enjoyed getting to know Dylan's character as well, both really had issues from their past that they needed to take care of. I found myself enjoying the twangy style of  dialogue that popped up in the story, it really gave the book a real cowboy flavor for me.Another neat thing that I enjoyed about this story was how in the beginning each chapter opened with a bit of advice about horses, when Annie's job changed the chapters started opening up with bits of advice for the lovelorn.

I really loved the town of  Moose Creek and found "The Trouble With Cowboys" a delightful inspirational romantic read.Sometimes christian romance can come off a bit strong, but Denise Hunter really strikes a great balance with her writing. She provides a sweet romance that also weaves in a nice wholesome feeling to her stories, while also giving a few laughs. While this book is a part of a series the author writes it in such a way that it can be read as a stand alone work, but if you enjoy a great read, then your going to want to read the entire series.

Denise lives in Indiana with her husband Kevin and their three sons. In 1996, Denise began her first book, a Christian romance novel, writing while her children napped. Two years later it was published, and she’s been writing ever since. Her books often contain a strong romantic element, and her husband Kevin says he provides all her romantic material, but Denise insists a good imagination helps too!
