About the book:
A young widow nursing the wounds of her past
A cowboy with demons of his own…
Though grateful for the blessing of her daughter, Carissa Lowe has accepted that widowhood is her lot in life. Bound by fear and mistrust, she feels incapable of opening her heart again.
Tyler Atherton has never forgotten Carissa. When he discovers she’s living with her sister on a nearby ranch, his life becomes intertwined with the lovely widow’s. And Carissa’s daughter, Gloria, seems determined to wrap herself around his little finger. But while Tyler longs to provide a home and future for Carissa, he is haunted by an obligation he feels unable to fulfill.
Challenged by mounting hardships, can Carissa and Tyler preserve their fledgling love in a land as unforgiving and vibrant as the people who call it home?
My take on this book:
"Taming The Wind" takes pace in North Texas in 1868. Carissa Lowe has spent the last two years of her life trying to find peace in her heart. The nightmares and bad memories of Malcolm, her now deceased husband continues to haunt her. You see two years ago, she thought she knew the man she married, instead he was on the run from the army, and decided to use her sister Laura and Clarissa to try and save himself, by taking them hostage, and then throwing them into the Gulf off the Corpus Christi coast. Fortunatly they were both saved, even though Malcolm wasn't. For Carissa though she no longer trusts her judgement where men are concerned, and has shied away from all men except for her brother-in-law, and the man who saved her Tyler Artherton, although she hasn't seen Tyler in the last two years because she has lived with her parents, and her baby daughter Gloria in Corpus Christi. When her parents decide to take a trip she decides to go spend the summer with Laura and her husband on their ranch, and Tyler Artherton is staying on a neighboring ranch.
Even though "Taming The Wind" is the third book in Tracie Peterson's Land of the Lonestar series, I felt like the author gave enough background information so this book could be read as a stand alone work. This book takes place right after the civil war which easily drew me into the story because this is one of my favorite time periods to read about. The two main characters Carissa and Tyler were so easy to connect and emphathize with. I felt like Ms. Peterson did a very realistic job of allowing them to grow as the story progressed. I found the secondary characters really added to the overall story. I am a long time fan of Tracie Peterson and always look forward to reading whatever she writes, and this book certainly didn't disappoint. Fans of historical inspirational romances where the setting comes to life will certainly want to read this one, but since its part of a three book series why not read them all. Highly recommended!

I've only read one of Tracy's books, guess I need to read the rest of them. She's a good writer.
