August 1, 2012 The Cate Kinkaid Files (Book 1)
Cate Kinkaid is just dipping her toe into the world of private investigating until one of the many résumés she has floating around lands her a real job. All she has to do is determine that a particular woman lives at a particular address. Simple, right? When the big and brooding house happens to contain a dead body, this routine PI job turns out to be anything but simple. Is Cate in over her head?

Readers will be hooked from the very first chapter of this fast-paced and witty romantic mystery from bestselling and award-winning author Lorena McCourtney.

My take on this book:
Cate Kinkaid is looking for work so when her uncle Joe, who just happens to be a private investigator, needs some help while he is recovering from surgery she decides to give it a try until a better job comes along. Her uncle Joe promises the first assignment will be an easy  one, with no murder, mayhem, or dead bodies, just simply verifying Willow Bishop's address. When she arrives at the address though she soon learns that Joe was wrong, wrong wrong, because there is a dead body, the body of the woman Willow had been working for, and Willow is nowhere in sight.Quickly Cate finds herself in the middle of a real who-dun-it!

I was easily drawn into this mystery from the beginning. After all Cate is such a down to earth likable character, and then when she goes to Willow's address and meets the ladies of the Whodunit book club, who just happened to be meeting at the address well I was totally hooked! The quirky cast of characters in the book club really gave me a few laughs. The plot moves along at a very fast pace, and provides enough twists to keep it interesting. I always enjoy whenever an author writes an animal into a story and with this one we have Octavia a big fluffy white cat, who also happens to be deaf, whom Cate sort of inherits.

"Dying To Read" is the first book in an exciting new cozy mystery series by Lorena McCourtney. I found the author's writing style very enjoyable, she easily delivers a top notch story, with interesting characters, a mystery with several twists, a bit of romance and manages to keep the story very clean. Fans of mysteries with a touch of romance will certainly enjoy this one, I know I did. I am anxious to see where the author takes Cate in the next book.
