The Reckoning by Alma Katsu is the second book in the "Taker" trilogy and while I enjoyed the first book immensely this one was even better!

After the death of her love Jonathan, Lanore also known as Lanny is now living in London with Dr. Luke Findley where they are attending a museum gathering where Lanny is giving away most of her treasures. She soon senses something isn't right though and learns that her maker Adair, whom she had imprisoned in the walls of his home for the last two hundred years is no longer confined, and he wants revenge! Lanny fears not only for herself but for her new lover Luke and decides to leave him to keep him safe. What will happen if and when Adair finds her?

Alma Katsu is an amazing storyteller, I couldn't wait to read the second installment of this series and my only complaint is that I have to wait for the third. The author easily transitions between past and present allowing the reader to learn more of the histories of the characters.I also like seeing things from the different characters perspectives. The author also paints a clear picture of Adair and how he has to learn to adapt after being locked away for two hundred years. I also got a clearer understanding of Adair's character in this story, especially as we learn how he became an immortal himself.
Overall, the author provides a very fast paced story with "The Reckoning" giving a fresh twist the immortal genre. While this is the second book in the trilogy the author provides enough background information that it can be read as a stand alone work although I recommend reading the first book "The Taker" because it's a fantastic book as well. My only complaint is that I will have to wait for the third book to be released. Alma Katsu was an unknown author to me until I started reading this series, and now she is one of my favorites. Anyone who enjoys a good paranormal  series really should give this one a try.

A complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
